Forum rooms are great for announcements and long-form posts. Here are 5 ways you can use forum rooms for your group.

Geneva is designed to make it really easy for your group to communicate in a bunch of different ways, all in one place. While chat rooms are awesome for casual, spontaneous, ongoing conversations, forum rooms are great for longer-form content like announcements and more structured sharing. As you make your home on Geneva, feel free to mix and match all the different room types to create the ideal setup for your people.

Here are 5 different topics or use cases that we've seen groups and communities use forum rooms for…

Announcements

Almost every thriving community on Geneva has a room like this — a place where people can go to see the community’s most important updates.

Some communities set up an Announcements room that anyone can post in, but many choose to set up the room so that most members have “read only” access and only the leaders can post in there. For more on how to do this, see here.

One other tip: We suggest reordering the rooms in your home so that your “Announcements” room shows up at the top of your rooms list.

Marketplaces

Forum rooms are great for community members looking to buy or sell things to one another. You might call yours “Marketplace” or “Buy / Sell / Trade” but the idea is the same. One cool thing we’ve seen communities do is have the seller mark each post with a ✅  emoji once the item is sold.

Help Wanted

Whether or not your community is explicitly focused on something professional, it could be fun to have a room for “Jobs” and/or “Help Wanted.” Crowdsourcing info with posts like "I’m looking for an interior designer, does anyone know anyone awesome?" tends to be really powerful!

Weekly Challenges

Forum rooms are great if your community has a curriculum or weekly ritual. You might experiment with “Read Only” forum rooms where you post course content or weekly prompts about a specific challenge or activity too.

This, of course, is just the start as there are a ton of different ways that you can use forum rooms.

If you’ve set up your home in a cool way, we’d love to see it! Send us a screenshot and/or tag us on IG or twitter for a chance to be featured here and on our social channels!
